On resettling back in Glasgow, the author was compelled to
revisit the difficulties and sadness of his early youth. Still troubled
by those early memories, he sought to re-examine them in the light
of time. This led him to write "Ah b'lang tae Glasgow". In this, his
first book, he exorcised his frailty with a loving and sympathetic
view of his past.

This book is a humorous and fascinating account of the author's eventful
life in London spanning a period of 25 years. The leafy tree-lined streets of
Hampstead that greeted him on his arrival in the capital were a far cry from the
dark grey tenements of his youth in Glasgow. The invigorating atmosphere of
Hampstead life inspired him to re-engage with his hope of becoming a playwright,
and he was soon submitting his work for the consideration of the local Hampstead
theatre. His expectations were often raised only to be dashed. and, after one too
many rejections, and rapidly dwindling financial resources, he put his literary
ambitions on hold in favour of paid employment. Despite his low esteem at this
time, it proved to be the springboard into a new beginning.
